Cliffs and rocks

The almost vertical sandstone cliffs and peaks are a dominant feature of the RBT's scenery. Self-seeded pinewoods, in the form of stunted, twisted Pinus sylvestris, grow on these rocky platforms.

These pinewoods growing on a slab of rock provide protection for a range of remarkable mosses and lichens with a strong Nordic affinity.

A number of specific plants such as Asplenium billotti, an Atlantic variety, Asplenium Adianthum-nigrum and Fir Clubmoss also grow on the vertical faces of the rock.

The fauna consists mainly of Peregrines (Falco peregrinus), Eagle Owls and Ravens.

The faults in the rock provide shelter for the Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis) and bats such as the Common Pipistrelle and Nyctalus noctula in particular.
