Amongst the special points of interest in the Vosges du Nord Reserve are areas of acid soil covered in Daphne cneorum, and the Corynephorus canescens that grows on grassland in Bitche owned by the army. Pfälzerwald's eastern slopes are covered in vineyards; the only nesting place in Germany of the noisy Cirl bunting (Emberiza cirlus) is in traditional orchards in the area, and in vineyards that have run wild.
